I call upon You, Lord, God of Abraham and God of Isaac and God of Jacob and Israel, You who are the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the God who, through the abundance of your mercy, was well-pleased towards us so that we may know You, who made heaven and earth, who rules over all, You who are the one and the true God, above whom there is no other God; You who, by our Lord Jesus Christ gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit, give to every one who reads this writing to know You, that You alone are God, to be strengthened in You, and to avoid every heretical and godless and impious teaching.

St Irenaeus of Lyons, Against the Heresies 3:6:4

A Great Offer from Faith Alive Christian Resources

Faith Alive Christian Resources has an irresistible offer.  It is a family-intended daily devotional excerpt (105 pg. PDF) from the soon-to-be released full work titled Come To Me.  The offer is to register and download the free excerpt, which guides you and/or your family through the Lenten season, from Ash Wednesday to Easter Day.  Each daily devotion is arranged as follows from.

How to Use the Daily Readings

Each day of prayer in this book moves through the same pattern:
Preparation
Invitation
Quiet
Song
Bible Reading
Dwelling in the Word
Prayer
Blessing
All of these elements are meant to be experienced as prayer to help you
and your family enter into an extended conversation with God.

Once registered, you and your family will work through the PDF edition of the Lenten season.  Then, after completing it, you only have to fill out a brief evaluation survey, and FACR will send each member of your family a free copy of the devotional upon publication.  It is a double blessing, as I am sure that working through Lent in this prayer book will be a blessing to you and yours.

This piece is based on the wonderful devotional by Philip Rainders, Seeking God’s Face.  We recently picked up a copy of this work for each of us and have found it to be simple but rich.  It has a sewn binding and a ribbon but the tru-tone pleather typical of cheap Bibles today.  However, the content and quality of the text block has earned its right to be put on our rebind list, which will give them a cowhide cover worthy of the work itself.  I predict Ace Book Binding Company will be getting the job.

I encourage everyone to take FACR up on this offer.  Also, I look forward to grabbing a couple copies of Forty also, which is a biblical theology of the prominent ‘forty’ theme throughout Scripture, and how each instance points us unerringly to Him, who, during his forty days and nights of wilderness trials, bound the devil, embarked on his Conquest to purchase our freedom on the Cross!
